Our last full day here in Orlando. Tomorrow we leave late in the afternoon, first to the UK and then onward to the Netherlands. We are thinking more of Samantha and Geordi by the day.Onze laatste ‘echte’ dag hier in Orlando. Morgen vertrekken we tegen de avond, eerst naar Engeland en dan door naar Nederland. We gaan steeds meer naar Samantha en Geordi verlangen.

So what shall we do today? That’s what we asked each other this morning. A last day is something you wish to spend in a nice manner. We decided to head to the Magic Kingdom first, so we could at least return Geordi’s first Mousketeer hat, and then we would see what came next.Wat gaan we doen vandaag? Dat vroegen we aan elkaar vanmorgen. Een laatste dag wil je toch leuk besteden. We besloten om naar het Magic Kingdom te gaan om daar in ieder geval de eerste Mousketeer-pet van Geordi terug te brengen, en daarna zouden we wel verder zien.
This time we just took the shuttle bus, as we had all the time in the world to ourselves. It arrived with a substantial delay, and with an extra stop at Typhoon Lagoon, we headed for the Ticket and Transportation Centre. There was only one monorail in service, and it was very crowded. And so we chose to take the ferryboat instead, as it really is just as fast as the monorail anyway.Deze keer gingen we gewoon met de shuttlebus, we hadden immers de tijd aan ons zelf. Hij kwam behoorlijk verlaat en via een tussenstop bij Typhoon lagoon gingen we naar het ticket & transportation center. Er reed maar 1 monorail en daar was het behoorlijk druk. Vandaar dat we voor de ferrieboat hebben gekozen, dat gaat eigenlijk net zo snel als de monorail.

The Mickey statues, which were revealed earlier this week, have been moved. You could now walk by all statues and look at them. That was a major improvement. There are statues that are truly gorgeous, but also statues where you really wonder whose kid has been messing with paint!De Mickey beelden, die eerder deze week onthult zijn, waren verplaatst. Je kon nu langs alle beelden lopen en ze bekijken. Dat was een hele verbetering. Er zijn beelden bij die echt schitterend zijn maar ook beelden waarvan je je afvraagt wiens kind met verf aan het kliederen geweest is!

But first of all, return Geordi’s Mousketeer hat. The Cast Member behind the desk initially misunderstood and wanted to embroider a new one. He would know our G, as he was from Germany and was studying in Florida.Maar eerst Geordi’s Mousketeer-pet terug brengen. De jongen achter de balie begreep ons eerst verkeerd en wilde een nieuwe borduren. Hij zou onze G wel kennen, hij was immers Duits van oorsprong en studeerde hier.
Then we explained to him that we already got a new one, and the nice lady had told us that we could return the faulty one, and we got a refund without a problem.Toen hebben we uitgelegd dat we inmiddels al een nieuwe hadden en de vriendelijke dame tegen ons had verteld dat we deze gerust terug mochten brengen, en zonder problemen kregen we geld terug.
Again we went searching for merchandise regarding Mickey’s 75th anniversary and the 75 InspEARation, but there is just nothing to be found. Really strange, but anyway, what isn’t there simply isn’t there!We zijn nogmaals opzoek gegaan naar merchandise omtrend het 75 jarige jubileum en InspEARations, maar er is gewoon niets van te vinden. Het is echt heel vreemd, maar goed, wat er niet is, is er niet!

I wanted something sweet, and Miriam had a taste for popcorn. After that we made a quick inventory of what we wanted to do here. We really wanted to visit Philharmagic – a Mickey and friends 3D movie – again, as it is so very funny. The standby queue was approximately 20 minutes, so we decided to get a FastPass and in the mean time browse the shops.Cesco had zin in iets zoets en ik lustte wel popcorn. Daarna zijn we gaan kijken wat we nog wilden doen hier. We wilden graag nog een keertje naar Philarmagic toe - dat is de Mickey 3D film - want hij is zo ontzettend leuk. De wachttijd was ongeveer 20 minuten, dus we besloten een fastpass te halen en ondertussen wat winkeltjes te bekijken.
Miriam has been searching for a Scrap booking set of the park for a while now. They sell them in three sizes, but this particular set is missing the middle size, which is the one that conforms to our (European) standards. And that sucks! She did however find another set, in correct size, for a deducted price. And that is a nice bargain. Especially as the other shops sold them for the normal price!Ik ben al even op zoek naar een Scrapbookset van het park. Ze verkopen die in een grote maat en in een kleine maat, alleen de tussenmaat hebben ze niet in die afbeelding. Daar baal ik best wel van. Wel vond ik van een andere set, in juist formaat, een afgeprijsd exemplaar. Kijk dat was nog eens leuk kopen. In andere winkeltjes is deze normale prijs!
By now it really was time to head for the Mickey’s Philharmagic. We were there exactly on time, because the doors just opened as we arrived!Toen was het echt tijd om naar PhilarMagic te gaan. We waren precies op tijd, want we kwamen net voordat de deuren open gingen aan!
It is soooo nice that people are social and correct creatures, who – as expected and requested – move all the way across without leaving empty chairs. NOT! Finding a spot was right out difficult, but in the end we managed to snatch a seat.Toch wel fijn dat mensen sociaal kunnen zijn en netjes, zoals het hoort, tot het einde van de rij opschuiven zonder lege stoelen ertussen. Niet dus. Het vinden van een plekje was nog moeilijk ook, maar lukte uiteindelijk wel.
After the movie was done, I felt like a Milkshake, and Miriam preferred a cone of fresh ice cream. So first we got a shake at a stand for me, and then on to the ice cream parlor at Mainstreet USA for Miriam. Yummy!Nadat de film afgelopen was had Cesco trek in een milkshake en ik wilde liever een (schep)ijsje. Dus eerst bij een kraampje voor Cesco een shake gekocht en toen voor mij naar het ijswinkeltje in Mainstreet. Mjam dat was nog eens ijs!
We then discussed what else we could do today. We had seen Magic Kingdom by now, and Typhoon Lagoon (one of Disney’s Water parks) was still an open option. The weather was nice, so why not?We hebben besproken wat we nog meer zouden kunnen doen vandaag. Magic Kingdom hadden we eigenlijk wel gezien en hadden nog steeds Typhoon Lagoon (een van de waterparken) als optie. Het weer was goed, dus waarom niet eigenlijk.

So off to the monorail, and then the shuttle bus back to the Hotel. Back in our room we put on swimming gear and packed the rest of the necessities. We took the car to Typhoon Lagoon. There is another big water park, Blizzard Beach, but that one was closed for refurbishment. Talk about an easy choice. After entry in the park we rented a locker and towels. Quickly changed and then dropped our towels on a few beach chairs. We immediately went for Castaway Creek. Which is a kind of slow flowing creek. You take a seat in a tire or other inflatable device and you’re taken very lazily by waterfalls and through caves. After finishing the tour around the park, we decided to explore the rest of the park. The park closes at 5 PM today. And as we only arrived around three o’clock…Dus op naar de monorail om daarna op de shuttlebus te stappen. In het hotel onze zwemspullen aangetrokken en andere spullen ingepakt. Met de auto zijn we naar Typhoon Lagoon gereden. Er is ook een ander waterpark, Blizzard Beach, maar deze is momenteel wegens onderhoud gesloten. Dus de keuze was gemakkelijk. Na binnenkomst in het park hebben we een kluisje en handdoeken gehuurd. Gauw omgekleed en onze handdoeken ergens neer gepletterd. We zijn in the Castaway Creek gestapt. Dat is een soort rivier met een langzame stroming. Je doet een zwemband onder je billen en je wordt heel relaxed door het water heen gevoerd langs watervallen en door grotten. Toen we het rondje helemaal rond geweest waren zijn we het park verder gaan verkennen. Het park sluit namelijk al om 17:00 uur. En aangezien we pas bij drieën hier zijn aangekomen…
After the lazy ride we went to the surf pool (large wave pool) where the waves has just started. And the waves are pretty big, I’ll tell you!Na deze luie rit zijn we naar de surfpool gegaan (groot golfslagbad) waar het golventijd was. En het zijn echt behoorlijke golven hoor!
We exited the wave pool at the side to head for Gangplank Falls. Which is a raft ride for multiple riders. You’re given a big raft / tube, as you have to lug the thing all the way to the top yourself! And when you arrive at the top, someone helps you to get in. Grab a hold of the handles at the side and go…Aan de zijkant van het zwembad zijn we er weer uitgegaan om naar the Gangplank Falls te gaan. Een raftritje met meerdere personen. Je krijgt een grote zwemband mee naar boven, want die moet je zelf meeslepen! En boven aangekomen krijg je assistentie bij het instappen. Goed vasthouden aan de rand en go…
You head down a pretty wild river, but it sure was fun!Je gaat over een behoorlijk wilde rivier, maar het was wel enorm gaaf!
We wanted to see everything in the park before closing, so quickly onward to the next ride. And that was Shark Reef. At Center Parcs they have the coral reef baths, where you can swim and look through underwater aquariums. But here things are a bit more realistic. You’re snorkeling among the SHARKS and other fish. No glass anywhere. First a short instruction, no touching the wildlife, no diving, etc. And then you’re off, swimming among fish and (friendly) sharks. Now there’s something Center Parcs can learn from as far as their Coral Reef goes!!!We wilden voor sluitingstijd het hele park verkend hebben, dus snel verder naar het volgende. Het werd de Shark Reef. Bij Center Parcs kennen ze het koraalrif waar je langs onderwater aquariums mag snorkelen. Hier gaat men nog een stukje verder. Je snorkelt tussen de HAAIEN en andere VISSEN. Niks geen glas ertussen. Je krijgt eerst een korte instructie, je mag de vissen niet aanraken, niet duiken, enz. En daar zwem je dan tussen de vissen en de (ongevaarlijke) haaien. Daar kan CenterParcs nog eens een puntje aan zuigen met hun Koraalrif!!!

We then headed for the StormSlides, really fast water slides. Where Miriam just merrily hops in to just about any roller coaster, she is scared of slides pretty easily. And when she arrived down in the splash pool at the bottom, she got a shot of water up her nose and saw the pool bottom come very near very quickly. Not funny! (For her!) In this park there are a lot of lifeguards at strategic location to act whenever necessary.We zijn in de stormslides gegaan, dat is een snelle glijbaan. Waar ik heel gemakkelijk in achtbanen stap vind ik glijbanen al snel eng. Toen ik in het plonsbad kwam kreeg ik een flinke puts water in mijn neus en zag de bodem van het zwembad wel erg dichtbij komen. Niet leuk dus! In dit zwembad staan overigens wel op enorm veel punten Lifeguards om in te springen als het nodig is.
Off to Mayday and Keelhaul Falls. These are two single rider raft slides. Again a long way up and down stairs along a path with a tube on your back. At the top you get in to your tube and of we gooooooooooooo.Op naar de Mayday- en Keelhaul-Falls. Beiden zijn éénpersoonsraft slides. Een behoorlijk eind moest je trapje op en trapje af een weg volgen. Bovenaan ga je in de zwemband zitten en gaan maarrrrrrrr.
First we did the Mayday Falls. In the end pool Miriam ended up upside down with tube and all, LOL! And then Keelhaul Falls. That ride was very bumpy, but Miriam thought it was better than Mayday Falls. Eerst hebben we de Mayday Falls gedaan. In het plonsbad kwam in met band en al ondersteboven terecht, bah! En daarna de Keelhaul Falls. Die rit was erg bobbelig maar leuker, vond ik, dan de Mayday Falls.

Utilizing the Castaway Creek we returned to our towels. The park closes in half an hour and it was getting pretty chilly. We were lucky! Somebody left the key in his locker, and there is a $2 deposit on each key. So… we returned an extra key!Met behulp van de Castaway Creek zijn we terug gegaan naar onze handoeken. Het park sluit over een half uurtje en het werd behoorlijk fris. We hadden geluk! Iemand had zijn sleutel in het kluisje laten zitten en als je je sleutel terug brengt krijg je $2,- borg terug. Dus… we hebben een extra sleutel ingeleverd!
In the shop we hesitated when we saw a towel-poncho for the kids. They’re basically towels you can put over your head, with a hood attached. Ideal for when they’ve been in the bathtub, but $ 24 plus tax makes a pretty expensive towel. So we decided instead to keep the idea in our head, and, back in the Netherlands, buy some terry cloth. Why wouldn’t we be able to make and embroider something like that ourselves…Nog even in het winkeltje staan twijfelen over een handdoekpak voor de twee kinderen. Is een handoek die je over je hoofd kan trekken met een capuchon erop. Ideaal als ze in bad geweest zijn, maar $24,- +tax is wel een behoorlijk dure handdoek. We besluiten daarom om dit idee in ons achterhoofd te houden en in Nederland gewoon eens een lap badstof te kopen. Waarom zou ik dit niet zelf kunnen maken en borduren…

We returned to the hotel to put on something warm, as we were really cold by now. And then we headed for DownTown Disney for the last time. We wanted to have another dinner at the RainForest Café. We each ordered a RainForest Burger, and the servings here are huge, and we were pretty much filled to bursting, without any room for a dessert.We zijn terug gegaan naar het hotel om even iets warms aan te trekken, want ik had het inmiddels echt koud! En daarna zijn we naar DownTown Disney gegaan. We wilden graag nog een keertje bij het RainForest Café eten. We hebben alletwee een RainForest burger gegeten en de porties zijn hier zo groot, we waren zogezegd goed gevuld en plek voor een dessert was er echt niet.
Quickly had a peek at the Pin-Traders, but the ones that were there tonight are those that have lost touch with the phenomenon. They are what most people call Pin Sharks. There is no way you can expect a one for one deal with them. They only look at the value of a pin right now, and how much your pin cost. No way you’ll get an honest deal.Nog even bij de Pin-Traders gekeken maar diegene die er nu allemaal stonden waren mensen die de sport ontgroeid zijn zeg maar. Ze noemen ze hier ook wel Pin Sharks. Daar kun je absoluut niet eerlijk mee ruilen. Die kijken naar wat een pin nu waard is en hoeveel een pin kost die je wilt ruilen. Je kunt geen eerlijke deals met ze sluiten.

Also had a quick peek in the World of Disney, but nothing on Mickey’s anniversary here either. We tried however, and that’s what counts.In the World of Disney nog even gespiekt, maar ook hier is niets te vinden omtrent Mickey’s jubileum. We hebben het echter geprobeerd, en dat telt.
We still had to pack our suitcases and so we returned to our room pretty early. But first we quickly purchased a set of figurine scissors (hidden Mickey style!).We moesten onze koffers nog inpakken en zijn daarom vrij op tijd terug gegaan naar het hotel. Maar eerst nog even snel een figuurschaar gekocht (met Mickey hoofdjes!).

We put everything on the bed, and Miriam was seriously concerned whether everything would fit in the suitcases. After some trial and error we could fit it in just fine, and I could even find some free space. A quick calculation for customs showed us that we would really not be exceeding € 175 each. So customs should not pose any problems tomorrow either. Let’s just pray that they so not want us to open the suitcases! Because how would we get everything back in again?We hebben alles eens uitgelegd op bed en ik vroeg me echt af of alles wel in onze koffers zou gaan passen. Na wat passen en meten bleek het makkelijk te kunnen en volgens Cesco hebben we nog ruimte over. Even snel een rekensommetje gemaakt voor de douane en we komen volgens ons niet echt boven de €175,- pp uit. Dus moet ook de douane geen probleem zijn morgen. Ik hoop alleen wel dat die koffers niet open hoeven! Want hoe krijg je alles er weer in?

We had a voucher for a free cocktail in one of the bars. So we first went to the bar at The Outback restaurant (the Laughing Kookaburra). But there was such an immense noise there, that we decided to head for the lounge instead. The cocktail menu was very vague, and there was nothing that jumped out for us.We hadden nog een coupon voor een free cocktail in de bar. We zijn eerst naar de bar bij het The Outback restaurant gelopen. Maar daar was het zo’n vreselijke herrie dat we besloten om in de lounge wat te drinken. De kaart was vrij onduidelijk en er stond eigenlijk niets op wat ons gelijk aansprak.
So we decided to just return to our room and leave that infernal drink be, but before we actually did we first filled out mugs again!We besloten om gewoon lekker naar onze kamer toe te gaan en het drankje gewoon te laten, maar voordat we gingen eerst nog even onze mokken gevuld!
Miriam went to bed really fast. I finished another translation and posted it on the web.Ik zelf ben al snel gaan slapen. Cesco heeft nog een vertaling afgemaakt en op het web gezet.

Tomorrow, tomorrow we’ll be going home. That sounds like we didn’t enjoy ourselves here, but nothing would be further from the truth! Miriam and myself have had a wondrous time and Miriam did not miss the kids as much as she feared before we left.Morgen, morgen mag ik weer terug naar huis. Het klinkt alsof ik het niet naar mijn zin gehad heb, maar niets is minder waar! Cesco en ik hebben hier een heerlijke tijd gehad en het gemis van de kinderen was een stuk minder als ik van tevoren had verwacht.
A big help in this was the fact that the home front only had positive things to tell us. That really made being here a lot easier.Meegeholpen aan dat feit heeft wel dat we van het thuisfront alleen maar berichten kregen dat alles zo goed ging. Dat heeft het verblijf hier een stuk gemakkelijker gemaakt.
The last few days Miriam has however been getting a bit homesick, and she is really glad that we will not be here for another week…De laatste dagen verlang ik zelf echter wel steeds meer naar huis en ben eigenlijk stiekem blij dat we hier niet nog een week zitten…
She misses chatting with and hugging Samantha and Geordi. When she looks at their picture she almost cannot wait.Ik wil weer kletsen en knuffelen met Samantha en Geordi. Als ik naar hun foto kijk kan ik bijna niet wachten.
