11/15/2003: "Saturday, 15 November 2003Zaterdag 15 November 2003"

The sun smiled down on us this morning. What a weird notion. We are sweating in shorts and in The Netherlands it is much colder and, according to hearsay, it is raining cats and dogs.Het zonnetje lachte ons vanmorgen alweer stralend toe. Wat een raar idee is het. Wij lopen hier in korte broek te puffen en in Nederland is het een stuk kouder en komt het, volgens zeggen, met bakken uit de lucht.

Today we’ll be going to the Magic Kingdom. We were there earlier in the week, but then we were there really too short to be able to do everything. For one we had not yet seen the afternoon parade.Vandaag gaan we naar het Magic Kingdom toe. We zijn er van de week al wel geweest maar toen waren we er eigenlijk te kort om alles te kunnen doen. We hadden onderandere de middag parade nog niet gezien.

We decided to have a simple breakfast at the bakery in the park. We hadden besloten om op het park een simpel ontbijtje te eten bij de bakkerij.
So we could leave for the park nice and early. We chose to simply take the hotel shuttle. We were obviously not the only ones that wanted to go to the Magic Kingdom! The bus was pretty full and we had to stand in the isle.Dus konden we lekker op tijd naar het park toe. We kozen ervoor om gewoon met de shuttle van het hotel te gaan. We waren niet de enigste die naar het Magic Kingdom wilden! De bus zat aardig vol en we moesten staan in de bus.

At the Ticket and Transportation Centre we were dropped off to take the monorail from there. It is kinda funny. Before you can enter the park your bags are checked. But it is so superficial that, if you had mal intent, you really could pull it off. But hey!Bij het transportation centrum werden we afgezet om vanuit daar de monorail te nemen. Is wel grappig. Voordat je het park in mag worden je tassen gecontroleerd. Maar het is allemaal zo ontzettend oppervlakkig dat, als je kwaad zou willen, het je ook echt wel lukt. Maar ach.

In the park we first rented a safe-locker, so we did not have to lug the camera and our vests the entire day. Then we went in to the park. There were a lot of Disney Characters walking around. We are still searching for Cinderella, but again were unable to find her. There was light at the end of the tunnel though… She appeared to be in The Toontown Hall of Fame in Mickey’s Toontown Fair at 10 AM. First we went to Mickey’s PhilharMagic Orchestra. It is always crowded there. And the earlier you arrive… The smaller the crowd is! It is a 4D movie. Mickey is a conductor of an orchestra, but before he could start, Donald put on his magic hat for a while. And then thing got, to put it mildly, slightly out of hand. But what else to expect when Donald gets involved… We were sprayed with water and a delicious freshly baked apple pie came whirling by, and that before breaking fast! Of course everything ended well! Only Donald got stuck in a tuba and was subsequently launched through the auditorium. This was truly a fun show!We hebben in het park eerst een kluisje gehuurd, zodat we niet de hele dag met camera en vesten hoefden te slepen. Daarna zijn we het park ingelopen. Er waren veel Disney Characters op de been. We zijn nog steeds op zoek naar Assepoester, maar nog steeds ook niet gevonden. Er was een lichtpuntje in deze zaak… Ze bleek om 10:00 uur in Toontown te zijn in the Toontown Hall of Fame. We zijn eerst naar Mickey’s PhilharMagic Orchestra geweest. Hier is het namelijk altijd enorm druk. En hoe vroeger je komt… Hoe rustiger het is! Het is een 4D film. Mickey is dirigent van een orkest, maar voordat hij begon heeft Donald zijn magische hoed even opgezet. Toen ging het zachtjes gezegd een klein beetje mis. Hoe kan het ook anders als Donald zich ergens mee bemoeit… We werden natgespetterd en er kwam een heerlijke net gebakken appeltaart voorbij en dan heb je zelf nog niet ontbeten! Het liep wel weer goed af hoor! Donald kwam alleen in de tuba terecht en werd vervolgens door de zaal heen gelanceerd. Dit was echt een leuke show!

After that we decided to go to the bakery first, to subsequently take the signature book from Miriam’s vest pocket. First we quickly got a FastPass at Peter Pan’s Flight.Daarna zijn we eerst maar even naar de bakker gelopen om vervolgens het handtekeningenboekje uit mijn vestzak te halen. Eerst nog even snel een fastPass bij Peter Pan gehaald.
And then off to The Toontown Hall of Fame. When we arrived, Minnie Mouse just came walking from her house to The Toontown Hall of Fame. It was a real nice touch. And indeed we were able to greet Cinderella here. It was not very busy yet, so we were yet again lucky!Daarna zijn we naar The Hall of Fame gegaan. Toen we aankwamen lopen kwam Minnie Mouse net van haar huisje naar The Hall of Fame gelopen. Was zo grappig. En inderdaad we konden Assepoester hier ontmoeten. Het was nog niet zo ontzettend druk, dus hadden we weer mazzel!
I am in a picture together with Cinderella. We are going to make a little girl in the Netherlands very happy… Because we of course also got her autograph! After this little visit we walked further in to Mickey’s Toontown Fair. Toontown is where the Disney characters live. For one there is a possibility to visit Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s houses. It is fun to go there. With all these little details. And… Minnie Mouse even has a sewing machine!! (Miriam though that was funny)Cesco staat samen op de foto met assepoester. We gaan een klein meisje in Nederland ontzettend blij maken… Want we hebben natuurlijk ook haar handtekening! Na dit bezoekje zijn we verder Toontown ingelopen. Toontown is waar de Disney figuren wonen. Zo kun je een bezoekje brengen aan het huisje van Mickey en het huisje van Minnie Mouse. Dat is zo ontzettend leuk. Met al die kleine details erin. Enne…. Minnie Mouse heeft ook een naaimachine!! Hihi

After Toontown we walked down to Fantasyland. We walked by Winnie the Pooh and Friends and got a FastPass for that one too. That truly reduced wait times immensely. After that we first visited Peter Pan’s Flight. We had a FastPass, so we could virtually walk right on. We found out that we could also meet Ariel. And well, because we really wanted to have the princesses collection complete, we really could not skip her. So off to Ariel’s Grotto. Miriam sat next to her on her rock, and that was kinda cute. Complete with picture and autograph we continued on our way. Off to Frontierland. There the Mark Twain (a Big Mississippi steamer) was just about to cast off, and we were just able to hop on. We made a round trip along Tom Sawyer Island, saw some of the scenery gags, and returned to dock. The fact that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for refurbishment is a true lack at this time. Not that it has anything to do with the accident in Disneyland! This refurbishment was started BEFORE the accident occurred. We then went to the County Bear Jamboree. A homeboy show with a couple of Disney Bears. Na Toontown zijn we verder in Fantasyland gelopen. We liepen langs Winnie the Pooh en hebben hier ook gelijk een FastPass voor gehaald.< Dat scheelt echt enorm veel wachten.< Daarna zijn als eerste naar Peter Pan’s Flight gegaan. We hadden hier een FastPass voor, dus konden praktisch zo doorlopen. We kwamen er achter dat we ook Ariel konden ontmoeten. En tja, omdat we eigenlijk de Prinsessen compleet wilden hebben, konden we dit eigenlijk niet overslaan. Dus op naar Ariel’s Grot. Je kunt naast haar op haar rots gaan zitten, en dat was wel grappig. Compleet met foto en handtekening zijn we ons pad weer verder gaan volgen. Op naar Frontierland. Daar stond de Mark Twain (rondvaart boot) net klaar om te vertrekken en we konden nog even snel mee. Rondje gevaren om Tom Sawyer Island en weer terug naar het startpunt. Groot gemis hier momenteel is toch wel dat Big Thunder Mountain voor onderhoud gesloten is. Heeft overigens niets met het ongeluk in Disneyland te maken hoor! Dit onderhoud was al VOOR het ongeluk begonnen. We zijn naar de Country Bear Jamboree geweest Een gezellige show met de Disney Beren.
Miriam has once again a heat allergy on her hands, and one of the little blisters burst. To prevent any dirt from getting in to it we stopped by the First Aid station next to Crystal Palace to get some band-aids.Ik heb op mijn handen weer eens last van warmte allergie en een van de blaasjes was open gegaan. Om te voorkomen dat er vuil bij kon komen zijn we even langs de first aid post gegaan om een pleister te halen.

Then we found a bench opposite the station to call Samantha. It was real nice to hear her voice again/ She had been at St Nicolaas’ arrival and was so full of that. She kept on chatting and chatting. Even when I asked her 4 times to give the phone to grandma, she kept on chatting! LOL. We clearly need not worry about them. They both were not scared at all for St Nicolaas and his helpers. Even Geordi was not afraid! But then again, his helpers have treats and Geordi loves eating…Daarna hebben we een bankje opgezocht om even Samantha te bellen. Wat was het heerlijk om die meid haar stem weer te horen. Ze was bij de intocht van Sinterklaas geweest en was er helemaal vol van. Ze bleef maar kletsen en kletsen. Toen Cesco tot 4 maal toe vroeg of hij Oma aan de telefoon mocht bleef ze maar door ratelen, hihi. We hoeven ons echt geen zorgen over hen te maken. Ze zijn helemaal niet bang voor Sinterklaas en Zwarte Piet. Zelfs Geordi is niet bang! Maarja Pieten en hebben lekkers en Geordi houd daar wel van…
Miriam was delighted to have had a chance to get up to date. We were close by the Castle and Miriam made, to show Samantha when we were back, a picture of me while I was on the phone with her.Heerlijk om weer even zo bij gepraat te zijn. We zaten vlakbij het kasteel en ik maakte, om het Samantha later te kunnen laten zien, een foto van Cesco toen hij aan het bellen was.

At that point we got a rumbly in our tummies. We wanted to get something to eat at the Pinocchio Village Haus. I wanted a hotdog and Miriam opted for the Figaro Fries. As extra topping she added some mushrooms and onions and she really enjoyed it. I topped my hotdog with some relish, onions and melted hot cheese. We both also ordered milkshakes. We’re not sure what they mean by milkshake here, but this was basically soft-ice in a glass with no trace of milk! It was very tasty though. And the plastic glasses the shake was in are very nice too. Once we were done with the shakes we washed them and put them in the locker. At the same time we got the camera out. It was just about time to find us a good spot to view the afternoon parade. We sat down in the shade on the curb of Main Street, USA. A singing Dapper Dan Quartet came by as well, to make the waiting more pleasurable. It was truly very nice.Ons buikje begon een beetje te knorren. We wilden iets eten bij the Pinocchio Village Haus. Cesco wilde graag een hotdog en ik ging voor de Figaro frietjes. Als topping nog wat vers gebakken champignons en uien bij gedaan en het was echt heerlijk. Cesco deed op zijn hotdog relish, uien en gesmolten kaas. We hadden er ook een milkshake bij besteld. Ik weet niet wat ze hier onder milkshake verstaan, maar dit was gewoon softijs in een beker waar ze de melk vergeten waren! Het was wel heel erg lekker hoor. n de bekers waar de shake in zat waren zo leuk. Die hebben we later ook omgespoeld en in ons kluisje gezet. Gelijk de camera meegenomen. Het werd namelijk ook tijd om een goede plek voor de middag parade te gaan zoeken. We zijn lekker in de schaduw in Main Street USA gaan zitten. Er kwam nog een zingend kwartet voorbij om het wachten aangenamer te maken. Het was echt ontzettend leuk.
While we were waiting we purchased a Tinkerbell Balloon. And the fun part, we immediately deflated it using a drinking straw! You should have seen some of the faces! But we did not buy the balloon for ourselves, but for Samantha’s bedroom. And we’re not going to walk around the entire day with a balloon in tow.Tijdens het wachten kochten we een TinkerBell ballon. En nu komt het, we lieten hem gelijk met behulp van een rietje leeglopen! Je had sommige gezichten eens moeten zien! Maarja we kochten die ballon nu eenmaal niet voor ons zelf, maar voor op Samantha’s kamer. En ik ga niet de hele dag met zo’n ballon lopen.

Finally the parade (Share a Dream Come True parade) started. All the floats were snow globes with Disney Characters inside and around them. The parade floats were really beautiful. Miriam though the parade concept very chaotic. Very often children were picked from the onlookers to participate. In itself a very nice idea, but they do have to climb over the people sitting in front every time! Unfortunately the battery of the camera went dead, and the backup was still on the charger at the hotel. Pretty stupid, of course!Eindelijk begon de parade (Share a Dream Come True Parade). Het waren allemaal snowglobes met daarin of omheen de favoriete Disney Characters De wagens van de parade waren heel erg mooi. Persoonlijk vond ik de opzet van deze parade erg rommelig.Heel vaak werden de kinderen uit het publiek gehaald. Jammer genoeg was mijn batterij van de camera leeg, en de reserve lag nog in het hotel. Stom natuurlijk!
After the parade we took the train for a short hop to Frontierland. Man oh man; they really put all the grouches there. You HAD to do this, HAD to stand there, COULDN’T do this. A bit less would have been very nice!Na de parade zijn we een stuk met de stoomtrein meegegaan. Jemig wat was het personeel hier knorrig en sjagerijnig Je MOEST dit, MOEST daar gaan staan, MOEST dat laten. Een beetje minder was niet overbodig geweest!
In Frontierland we got off, and there too it was Grouch-central. Must have had something to do with the ride! We strolled around Frontierland, but there were, for us at least, no more rides we wanted to ride there. So we walked from Frontierland in to Adventureland. First off: The Pirates of the Caribbean. It too is a very attractive ride. It has a complete background story, which has become much clearer thanks to the movie.In Frontierland zijn we uitgestapt en daar troffen we ookal zo’n knorrepot. Zal wel aan de attractie gelegen hebben! We hebben wat rondgelopen in Frontierland en waren, voor ons, weinig attracties meer die we daar wilde doen. Dus zijn we vanaf Frontierland Adventureland ingelopen. Als eerste daar The Pirates of the Caribbean. Dat is ook al zo ontzettend leuk. Er zit een heel verhaal achter wat door de film een stuk duidelijker geworden is.
In Adventureland you can also find the Tiki Tiki Room. It is a kind of hut where birds do a song and music show. Miriam thought it very boring in the past. But now it is under New Management by Iago (Aladdin) and Zazu (The Lion King). It is pretty funny now, but to be honest not more than that!In Adventureland zat ook the Tiki Tiki Room. Dat is een soort hut waarin vogels een zang/muziekshow opvoeren. Vroeger was dit altijd heel erg saai. Nu is het onder New Management van Iago (Aladdin) en Zazu (Lion King). Het is nu wel grappig, maar eigenlijk ook niet meer dan dat!

By now it was becoming time to head back to Main Street, USA. First of all to satisfy Miriam’s sweet tooth and also because the evening parade (Spectromagic) is not far off anymore. To be honest we already saw it, but it is only shown in the weekends. So this is our chance.Zo langzamerhand werd het een beetje tijd om richting Mainstreet te gaan. Allereerst om even een snoepertje te halen en omdat over niet al te lange tijd de avond parade (Spectro Magic) gaat beginnen. Eigenlijk hebben we deze al gezien, maar hij rijd alleen in de weekeinden. Dus dit is onze kans.
It would have been nicer if it had been a little bit darker before the parade began. We were at the square at the beginning of Main Street, USA. We had pretty good spots. But unfortunately, the battery does not recharge by itself…Voor het mooie had het iets donkerder mogen zijn voor de parade. We stonden op het plein vooraan Mainstreet We hadden vrij goede plaatsen. Maarja helaas, batterij natuurlijk nog steeds leeg…
Once the parade had passed, we walked through the stores towards the castle to be able to get a decent spot for the fireworks. And then you run in to a super intelligent cast member that started to block people because it was a dead end according to him. Don’t talk nonsense man; everyone can see it is a through lane. Ok, you’ll have to walk around the square because of the parade, but that is logical.Toen de parade voorbij was zijn we door de winkeltjes richting kasteel gelopen om straks het vuurwerk te kunnen zien. Is er buiten zo’n super inteligente castmember die mensen tegen ging houden omdat het volgens hem doodlopend was. Zeur niet man, dit is een doorgaande route. Ok, met een kleine omweg, maar dat is logisch.

Right in front of the castle we found a nice piece of curb with a great view for the fireworks. All we needed now was some more patience.Pal voor het kasteel vonden we op het stoepje een prima plekje voor het vuurwerk. Alleen nog wat geduld
At Disney there are smoke free zones. To be more precise, almost the entire park is a smoke free area. Only in specially designated is smoking allowed. But of course there would be someone lighting a cigarette right in our faces. And he was truly miffed that I said something about it. The smoking areas are somewhat off the beaten track.In Disney heb je rookvrije zones. Zeg maar gerust er mag vrijwel nergens in het park meer gerookt worden. Alleen op aangewezen zones mag nog gerookt worden. Gaat er toch iemand een sigaret voor je neus opsteken. Was nog ontzettend beledigt dat Cesco er iets van zei. De rookzones zijn een beetje afgezonderd.
Miriam would have had THE chance to make THAT picture of Tinkerbell, but that battery still hadn’t recharged by itself!Ik had nu eindelijk DIE foto van TinkerBell kunnen maken, maarja weer die batterij hé!

The Fireworks are truly a pleasure to experience.Het vuurwerk is een genot om naar te kijken.

After Wishes we walked in to Futureworld, but Space Mountain had a queue time of 40 minutes. And that decided for us that it was time to find the exit.Na het vuurwerk zijn we nog even Future World ingelopen, maar voor SpaceMountain stond al ruim 40 minuten wachttijd. Dat deed ons besluiten om gewoon lekker naar de uitgang te gaan.
This time we took the ferryboat back to the TTC. It was a lot less crowded than the monorail. Everybody wants to leave the park at the same time!Deze keer zijn we met de veerboot terug naar het ticketcenter gegaan Dat was een stuk rustiger dan met de monorail. Iedereen wil tegelijkertijd uit het park!

The shuttle bus was already waiting on the TTC parking lot. De bus stond al op de parkeerplaats te wachten.
Our driver this time was a very large man. But what fun we had on the way back with this driver. He drove, by his own account, the Happiest Bus in the Whole Park! And he could very well be right. We hadden deze keer een behoorlijk gezette man. Maar wat hebben we onderweg gelachen met die chauffeur. Hij had, naar eigen zeggen, the Happiest bus in the whole park! Daar had hij wel gelijk in.
He told jokes and we all sang songs together. Hij vertelde mopjes en we zongen met zijn allen een liedje.
It sounds very dumb, but we had enormous fun. We sang the Mickey Mouse March and also the song about the Wheels of the Bus, LOL. And everybody joined in too! He made lots of jokes about his weight. If you go to The Tower of Terror in MGM Studio’s next time, take him with you. You’ll go twice as hard! Or EPCOT: Every Person Comes Out Thinner. If that were true, he’d be there every day.Klinkt enorm stompzinnig, maar we hebben zo’n lol gehad. We zongen the Mickey Mouse song en het liedje over de wielen van de bus, hihi. En iedereen doet ook gewoon mee he! Hij maakte allemaal geintjes over zijn omvang. Als je de volgende keer in The Tower of Terror gaat in MGM studio’s, neem hem mee. Je gaat dan tweemaal zo hard! Of EPCOT, Every Person Comes Out Thinner. Als dat waar was ging hij iedere dag, hihi.

Next we had to join in breaking, turning and taking bumps: Whooooahhhh, Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh, Uh and Ooohhh (dependent whether you were in the front or the back of the bus). It was truly sad to get out of the bus once we arrived at the hotel.Vervolgens gingen we mee remmen, bochten maken en heuveltjes nemen: Whoaaahhhh, Wiieeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh, Uh en ohhh (afhankelijk of je voor of achterin de bus zat). Het was gewoon jammer om uit deze bus te moeten stappen toen we bij het hotel aangekomen waren.

Only once you’re back in the hotel room, you really realize how tired you are. I started translating and Miriam made Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows. A nice relaxed end of the day. A lot of walking and activity, but it was yet again an extremely enjoyable day to reminisce on. Als je weer terug in je hotelkamer komt , merk je pas hoe moe je bent. Cesco is aan het vertalen gegaan en ik heb warme chocolademelk gemaakt met marshmallows. Heerlijk rustig de dag afgesloten. Een hoop gelopen en gedaan vandaag maar het was weer een ontzettend leuke dag om op terug te kijken.
